Student quote of the day: "A high pressure working time is coming to me, even though I am a study lover." This would be a Chinese student writing about his anticipation of finals week.
I love ESL students (and their unintended humor). They have great ideas, and such a difficult time expressing those ideas. I give them a lot of credit. I'd be incredibly frustrated if my shoddy language/vocabulary skills reduced me to sounding like a third grader in my college papers, yet my ESL kids don't seem too bothered. They just want to learn.

Oh, it's marvelous! One that always makes me laugh is a picture and description by a 6th grader who had been camping. The sentence: I was afraid of bear." And the picture showed people running in all directions & a ninja wielding a mace, shouting "The bear is come! The bear is come!"
That's awesome!
I bet my Spanish teachers read my essays and laugh.
My Spanish Linguistics prof laughed at us all the time. He didn't even attempt to hide his amusement at our errors, and usually he did a good job of explaining why what we'd said/written was so funny/strange.
